Nicholas Markowitz

Do not stand by my grave or hold my locket and weep.
I am not there.I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am a diamond glint in the snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave or hold my locket and cry.
I am not there... I did not die.

Parents Of Murdered Children MySpace Group

POMC has been very helpful in helping me through the initial months after my only child Nick Markowitz 15, was kidnapped and executed.

You can watch the movie Alpha Dog to understand the story it is very confusing! No I haven't received a penny from the movie, maybe someone has connections there? I refer that movie to thousands of people and it could help pay for my medical bills that this tragedy has incurred. Is that tacky? I hope not, I just feel guilty sometimes for getting the help I know I need. And that I feel just shouldn't be!

I am trying to bring us together online and maybe somehow get to know each other to give the support no one else understands.

Nick's Mom, Susan Markowitz

The Story at Crime Library

On August 6, 2000, Nick Markowitz, a handsome 15-year-old boy with an endearing widow's peak crowning his dark brown hair, ambled down a street in West Hills, California. It was just after noon on a searing hot Sunday that would top off at 99 degrees before sunset, and Nick was in a foul mood.

The night before, he'd had a run-in with his parents when he came home at midnight with something suspicious bulging in his back pocket. His parents had good reason to be concerned — they'd caught Nick with Valium and marijuana in the past. When his father demanded to see what was in his pocket, Nick bolted out the door.

Jesse James Hollywood

At 19, he bought a 3-story white stucco home for $200,000, just a few blocks away from the Markowitz family, making the $41,000 down payment in cash. He drove a black Mercedes and a blue sports car.

Neighbors often saw him in the front yard hanging out with a group of young men similarly dressed in jeans and tank tops, smoking in the shade of large elm tree. In the backyard, he kept two pit bulls. They also noticed strange goings-ons, cars that would pull up to the house night and day, drivers who would dash inside for a minute before leaving again.

Deputy DA removed from Jesse James Hollywood murder case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An appeals court on Thursday ordered a deputy district attorney removed from a high-profile death penalty case because the prosecutor had shared confidential files with movie producers.
Defense attorneys had asked for the entire Santa Barbara County district attorney's office to be removed from the case against Jesse James Hollywood.

Hollywood is accused of masterminding a plot to kidnap and kill 15-year-old Nicholas Markowitz in August 2000 because the teenager's older half-brother owed Hollywood a $1,200 drug debt.

Now the father of two young children, Ben Markowitz says he has a tough time talking about his brother... THE GUN THAT CHANGED LIVES

From a stack of exhibits in a cramped room on the top floor of Santa Barbara's Moorish-style courthouse, evidence clerk Alicia Romero pulls out a weathered cardboard container, about the size of a large box of chocolates.

The stubby black Intratec Tec-9 machine pistol is still dirty in spots. Ms. Romero insists on rubber gloves. She's concerned about the bodily fluids and the chemical residue that remain on the weapon's dark brushed-metal finish.

Longtime fugitive Jesse James Hollywood captured in Brazil

SANTA BARBARA – Longtime fugitive Jesse James Hollywood has been yanked out of a comfortable life in Brazil and back to California, where he faces charges of kidnapping and killing a 15-year-old boy.

Hollywood, 25, taught English and was living with a young woman in a fashionable beach district at the end of his five years on the lam, Brazilian authorities said. He allegedly paid his expenses with $1,200 he received each month from his parents.

Hollywood Appeal Document

This is a companion case to Haraguchi v. Superior Court (Oct. 5, 2006, No. B191161) (Haraguchi). In this death penalty case, Jesse James Hollywood, petitioner, seeks a writ of mandate directing the respondent trial court to grant his motion to recuse the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Barbara County. In the alternative, petitioner seeks a writ of mandate directing the trial court to conduct a full evidentiary hearing on the recusal motion. Petitioner contends that, because of the role of the assigned prosecutor's, Ronald J. Zonen's (Zonen), role in the making of a film about the case, "that prosecutor has demonstrated a bias and conflict of interest warranting recusal." "Based on the lack of evidence that [the District Attorney] was unaware of the prosecutor's disqualifying conduct," petitioner also contends that the entire prosecutorial office should be recused.

Lawyers, guns and money

At first just another outside observer, attorney Michael Mehas may now be the difference between life and death for alleged pot dealer-turned-killer Jesse James Hollywood

By Matthew Singer

It’s no wonder Michael Mehas decided to go into law: He looks good in a suit. It shows off the height that made him a star shooting guard in high school better than his casual clothes do. At the Santa Barbara Superior Courthouse on Jan. 10, however, the suit is wearing him. As a criminal defense attorney, Mehas is familiar with this scene, but not the view. He’s used to addressing the witness stand, not speaking from it, and he’s obviously nervous about the reversal: He’s clutching his bottle of water like a life preserver.

Holding on to Nick

She once filled her days with projects at home: gardening, decorating and caring for her son and two stepchildren. All that changed for Susan Markowitz on an August day in 2000, when a knock on her door brought news of the unthinkable: Her son, who had been missing for a week, was found shot to death and hastily buried in a shallow grave in the foothills of Santa Barbara.

"All I wanted was to be a mother," Markowitz said. "I lost my job the day Nick died."

Release of 'Alpha Dog ' reopens Markowitz family wounds

The film, "Alpha Dog," based on the 2000 kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old West Hills resident Nick Markowitz, has received mixed reviews but growing notoriety. The fictionalized Universal release has become increasingly tied to the very case it portrays -- the manhunt for Jesse James Hollywood, whom prosecutors allege ordered the hit on Nick Markowitz, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave outside of Santa Barbara.

FATHERS AND SONS...

On a sunny day in May, Jack Hollywood and his ex-wife, Laurie, sat holding hands in the courtroom waiting for deputies to bring their son, Jesse James Hollywood, into court. It was two months after Jesses capture in Brazil. Four burly deputies escorted the 25-year-old accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Nicholas Markowitz. Sitting on the opposite side of the court, Jeff and Susan Markowitz studied him as he walked in. With his tan and sun-bleached hair, he looked like a college student back from spring break, nothing like the smirking skinhead on his wanted poster.

Calif. Drug Dealer Guilty Of Murdering 15-Year-Old

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Marijuana dealer Jesse James Hollywood faces a possible death sentence after his conviction for kidnapping and murdering a 15-year-old boy over an escalating drug debt, a crime that inspired the 2007 movie "Alpha Dog."

A Santa Barbara Superior Court jury on Wednesday also found Hollywood guilty of the special circumstance allegation of being a principal in a murder committed in the course of a kidnapping and being involved in a crime in which an assault weapon or machine gun was used, making him eligible for the death penalty.

The jury deliberated for about four days. Hollywood, 29, stared straight ahead as the verdict was read.

"I can't believe they found him guilty of that murder," his father, Jack Hollywood, said outside the courtroom.

The victim's parents said they were relieved but declined to comment further because of a gag order issued in the case. Prosecutors and defense attorneys also declined to speak.

The Markowitz Redemption: Jesse J. Hollywood Sentenced To Death

The tragic tale of a young life snuffed out prematurely in it’s prime, came to a somewhat cathartic end after nine long years, with retribution finally catching up with the perpetrator.

The long drawn-out trial of Jesse James Hollywood, accused of kidnapping and murdering 15 year-old Nicholas Markowitz nine years ago, culminated with the jury finding him guilty as charged, on counts of kidnapping and first-degree murder, and awarding him with the death penalty.
