This week marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Fillmore West. After the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy, race riots ignited in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, as they did in many places across the country. Bill Graham had to close the original Fillmore Auditorium and move to a safer location. He found it in the old Carousel Ballroom.
